BVSc Subjects
BVSc subjects are divided into 5 years with 2 semester in each year. Students must look at the subjects before choosing any course.
BVSc First Year Subjects
- Osteology: Osteology is the study of bones. This is practiced by osteologists. It is a subdiscipline of anatomy, anthropology, and paleontology.
- Myology: Myology studies the muscular system. It includes the study of the structure, function and diseases of muscle.
- Muscle Physiology: Muscle physiology studies the mechanism behind muscle contraction, which means the shortening of the muscle fibers initiated by action potentials in motor neurons.
- Introduction and Importance of Statistics: Statistics is an important field, it helps us understand the general trends and patterns in a given data set. It can be used for making predictions about future events.
- Demonstration of Embalming of the Carcass and Preservation: In embalming, the blood is drained from one of the veins and replaced by a fluid, usually based on Formalin, injected into one of the main arteries.
BVSc Second Year Subjects
- General Histology: Histology, also known as microscopic anatomy or microanatomy, is the branch of biology that studies the microscopic anatomy of biological tissues. Histology is the microscopic counterpart to gross anatomy, which looks at larger structures visible without a microscope.
- The Biting Midges: The biting midges are any of a family of tiny biting dipteran flies of which some are vectors of filarial worms.
- Parasites and Parasitism: Parasitism is a relationship between two living species in which one organism is benefitted at the expense of the other. The organism that is benefitted is known as a parasite, while the other is called the host.
- Biochemical and Genetic Determinants of Growth: Determinants describe the component of hereditary material that specifies the characteristics of different cells.
BVSc Third Year Subjects
- Historical Development Branches and Scope of Pharmacology: Pharmacology is the science of how drugs act on biological systems. It encompasses, chemical properties, biological effects and therapeutic uses of drugs
- Veterinary Neuropharmacology: Neuromuscular blockers or skeletal muscle relaxants are drugs that act peripherally to reduce muscle tone and cause transitory paralysis.
- General Pathology of Viral Infections: Virus-induced immune pathology may lead to the direct killing of the infected cells, resulting in tissue destruction, which can lead to the development of disease.
- Systematic Veterinary Virology: Veterinary virology studies viruses in non-human animals. It is called as an important branch of veterinary medicine.
BVSc Fourth Year Subjects
- Veterinary Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is a major treatment modality in veterinary oncology used as the sole treatment, for conditions such as lymphoma, or in the adjuvant setting for various tumor types.
- Veterinary Toxicology: Toxicology studies how chemical substances interact with living systems and affect normal processes, and the use of this information to predict safe exposure levels.
- Anaesthesiology And Diagnostic Imaging: Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during and after surgery and Diagnostic imaging is a process where doctors look inside the body for clues about a medical condition.
- Veterinary Obstetrics: Veterinary obstetrics is a branch of veterinary medicine that deals with medical and surgical care together with manipulations of the female animals in breeding.
