A simple B.Com course gives students enough information for them to have a generalized overall understanding of all the areas which are in the commerce stream. When you do a general B.Com course, you may not get any specialization.
Whereas on the other hand if you do a B.Com with Honours, during your final year (3rd year), you can gain specialized and in-depth knowledge in your chosen area so that you gain an advantage when it comes to boosting your professional and employable skills.
The areas where you can specialize include accountancy, economics, banking & insurance, or finance, among others, depending on your college. If you want to gain a deeper understanding of the commerce stream while doing your undergraduate itself, B.Com Honours are the right choice.
When it comes to admissions, it is slightly more challenging to get into the B.Com Honours program than it is to do a B.Com. The cut-off is generally higher for the former as compared to the latter, which is why the job opportunities are more for graduates with an honors degree, and they usually receive better salaries and packages. Having just a B.Com degree does not get much importance in the service industry nowadays, so graduates typically have to do their Master’s or more. Graduates with a B.Com (Hons) from prestigious institutions such as Nirma University are well received by the industry with good starting CTC packages. However, it should be clear that studying for a B.Com with Honours is much more demanding and requires concentrated effort and commitment.
